Is there another way to make my FX5500 agp card to make faster?
Q. I am addicted playing with counter strike source online. I am using FX5500 256 mb AGP card. I am dropping down to 30-15 fps when playing. But can't already afford buying a new one. What will be the best setting ingame or is there another way or setting for video card to make it faster? Is adding more RAM can help for it? The Speed of my CPU is 1.8 ghz.

A. You should have above 512mb ram. First step should be to upgrade system ram to 1Gb (if your motherboard support it, check manual first). Secondly, you can try set graphic settings (from nvidia control panel) to High Performance. Mainly MipMap and Texture filtering. Also, upgrade the drivers to 169.21 if you havent already (assuming winxp). Third, you might try overclocking your gfx card by a 25-30 mhz. Use RivaTuner or something, increase your gfx card core clock to 300 (from 270 default) and memory clock from 200 to 225mhz or similar. It will help with performance but only a little. In the end, FX5500 was a slow product for its day which is now 5 years outdated. A low end 6200 AGP card outperforms 5500.

How to tell a PCIe video card from a AGP by looking at it?
Q. I have different video cards I have put in different computers over time. Now the ones not in use are in different boxes and the CDs mixed up. Is there a way to tell a PCIe from a AGP by looking at it. Is there a color on the clip, or is the clip shaped differently? What can I look for?

What is the closest graphics card to an ATI Club3D 2400Pro AGP in price and performance?
Q. Now it may have said AGP on the banner, but I want a PCI Express. I accidentally bought the wrong one. I spent 45 on this and specs are: 512MB 64-Bit processing DVI + VGA + ViVo I want it as close as possible in price and perfoming power.

A. you can buy Geforce 9600 GSO (512/768 megabyte memory DDR 3 or 2 depending on varius model and makers ) most probably same price if price converted from dollar to pound. and it's much better than that old model ATI card. and it's probably the best value graphics card out there if performance/price are important to you goodluck here is the link but there are other cards from different other company as well.

A. It depends on how old your PC is but graphics cards can be PCI, AGP or the latest socket is PCI Express. See Expansion in Wiki below. PCI graphics cards were utilised before the idea of having a seperate graphics port was ever considered. Mother boards released since 2005 onwards have begun to incorporate PCI Express. See the second link for a picture of and AGP card and its associated connector and also PCI Express Sockets.

What should I get PCI Express 256MB or AGP 512 MB?
Q. Hi. I'm planning to get a video card for my computer, which right now has an ATI Radeon Xpress 200, 128MB. I was planning to buy an EVGA 7200GS 256MB PCI-Express, but a friend could sell me his old ATI x1300 visiontek 512MB (AGP interface). Which one should I get? What's the difference between AGP interface and PCI express? Thanks for reading.

A. Get the EVGA 7200GS 256MB PCI-Express its way better then the ATI card. AGP is slower then the PCI express slot and you cant fit a AGP card in a PCI express slot and vise versa. But first you need to make sure what type of interface slot your computer has. Hope this helps!

How can I increase the Memory of my AGP card?
Q. I have a NVIDIA Geforce 9600GT 512MB and I have 2GB RAM but I want to increase my AGP Memory to 1GB? Is it possible? If it is, can you please tell me?
Asked by Tamjid H - Fri Oct 17 09:38:00 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The memory on this video card is soldered directly to the card itself. As a result there is no way to increase the amount of memory on it. Your only option is to purchase a new video card with more memory on it.

How do I install a PCI Video Card on a motherboard with a AGP Video Card?
Q. I have IRQ conflicts with the PCI video card and AGP video card. AGP is just generic card. PCI card is a 9250 Radeon PCI video card.
Asked by lamadog - Fri Mar 7 21:45:17 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Try putting the pci card in the slot furthest away for the agp slot. This sometimes helps the irq conflicts. If you have anything else like a sound card or a nic card plugged in try taking them all out until you have found what works for the graphics card. Then one at a time try replacing the other cards and see how things go and change positions as necessary. this is a lot of trial and error but there is no other way to try. If all else fails you should be able to pick up an agp card that will run dual monitors with out having 2 cards. Good luck

A. Those are two different terms. "AGP" refers to a type of slot/video card. You usually have to pop open your case and look at the expansion slots to see what your motherboard is capable of handling. "PCI-e" is a newer type of video card slot, and after that you start to go to multiple video cards - which I believe is called 'SLI'. "VGA" on the other hand refers to the standard jack that your monitor plugs into "Video Graphics Array". Depending on what kind of computer you have, when you bought it, and how much you paid for it, your video card might be built into the motherboard (easy to tell, because the monitor plug will be attached to the motherboard). If the monitor plug is located on a card plugged into a slot, then it might be… [cont.]

How can I max out my AGP system?
Q. I'm currently running AMD XP-M @ 2.5Ghz on A7N8X-E, with PC X1950 pro agp graphics card, Corsair Twin XMS PC-3200 XL 1GB Kit, and Maxtor DiamondMax 9 SATA Hard drives in Raid-0. This thing already benches the 3DMarks 03/06 with 13126/3854. I know that basically, the processor is mainly holding the graphics card back. So I would like to know that if I'd get the best S939 Mobo, how would it affect the scores? I'm planning to get the DFI Lanparty UT NF3 Ultra and Opty 170 and oc it. Will this upgrade work? The RAM and everything would be the same. Just that the motherboard and processor are to be upgraded.

A. You might have an issue with the opteron processor. That model most likely requires ECC memory, which your corsair is not. ECC memory costs a good amount more and is not worth the money. Basically it just has an extra memory chip for error correcting. You would be better off just getting one of the X2 processors for the 939 socket.

How difficult is it to install an AGP video card?
Q. I currently have a Compaq Presario S4220NX. I checked the computer to find that I have an AGP slot for a video card. But right now my monitor is plugged into the motherboard (I do not currently have a video card) and I did some research and found that I am going to have to do a little extra to make this things work. I was wondering if anyone else has had to do a similar process, if anyone could direct me to a site that helps with computers with no previous video card, and could tell me generally if it is difficult or if a newbie like me could pull it off. Note: I'm experienced with computers, I've just never put in a video card before.

Just go to the Compaq Presario website, and look up how to install a AGP video card. You probably should print out the directions before you shut down the computer.
