Is it possible to get a Class-A commercial driver's license without taking the written test?
Q. I live in California and I had so many heartaches until I finally passed the written test for Class-C. The job I'm seeking requires a Class-A. Is it possible to get a Class-A commercial driver's license without taking the written test, but a driving test? Written tests gives me the creeps.

A. unfortunately you have to do a written test just to get a class A temporary permit.This is the only written test you'll have to take after that you just need to pass a driving skills test. Most companies want you to take a course at a school for truckers before they will hire you.the class should be at least 160 hours and teach all the basic's along with double clutching,floating gears.alley dock,straight back and right turns. there is also a 113 point inspection on the tractor and trailer that you we need to do with the skills test to pass.

A. lol @ "go to your local DMV dealer and tell them that." Yeah OK cos everyone lives in the US! I am assuming you've come of age and your cat C+E licence has expired? If so the DVLA should have sent you a renewal application for lorries or buses, and a medical form?? They should have done this BEFORE it expired. If (which I am assuming you didn't) you didn't receive a renewal, you can do it using a D2 form and a medical form D4 but you will need to make sure your photocard isn't due for renewal too, as you will have to get that changed also if that's the case. Go to to order forms D2 and D4 one last thing, if you don't have a photocard licence you will need to send off some photos and a passport or similar - for more info visit
