What driver will get rid of the "missing parallel driver" in m device manager?
Q. I did a full reboot on my Dell Inspiron 8600. I have re-installed all of the drivers except for the parallel device driver apparently. I don t know what to download off the dell site solve this. In the device manager its labeled under "other devices" than "parallel device"
Asked by Jason E - Thu Mar 19 17:37:07 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Dell drivers page for your laptop doesn't really mention a parallel driver but windows might not be reporting it correctly. You could try FixMyDriver.com and let it complete a system scan. It might give you a more accurate description of what device is missing a driver.

What to do when device driver disc doesn't work?
Q. I have a Dell XPS. Some months back I installed Vista (yes, with several problems). Things had been fairly ok, until today when I got Error Loading OS. The machine won't even boot to the utility partion as it normally does. I've installed the device/driver disc that came with the PC as well as tried booting up the OS disc and neither seems to work. Other ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

A. Go to to the Dell web site and download the driver. Go to support and find your computer. All the drivers will be there.

Device Driver?
Q. Hi I am having MS train simultr. can anyone pl tell the names of 3-D graphics accelerator card compatible with Microsoft Direct 3D "VERSION 7.0". pl tell the one which has the latest driver with version 7. Actually i'm having trident 3d 975 card. What is the latest version for this? Please tell me the url for downloading the latest driver for Trident.
Asked by ss - Fri Mar 23 13:44:53 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Wow, alot of questions here. Let me see if I can help. Any new 3-D graphics accelerator would be compatible with Direct 3D Version 7.0. I might be wrong but it should say it right on the box. If you have a best buy anywhere nere you go there and tell them what you're looking for and they will hock you up. The latest drivers for Version 7. When you buy these cards they should all have the lastest version. But does it really matter? Just by going to the site of the graphics accelerator card they will have updates when ever updates are made. Goto the url down at the bottom of this page for the drivers. You will be asked to join up with the site it is free.

What is the device driver for a Pocket PC?
Q. I got a Pocket PC for Christmas off eBay. Just the phone, a charger, and a USB cord. Now the phone isn't working, sending messages or showing any of my info, just coming up with a message that says "'Unidentified USB Device' Enter the name of the device driver for this device. For information, see the device manufacturer's documentation" I can't make sense of it. Any clue?

Is it possible to open different device driver files at the same time in linux?
Q. I would like to open two different device driver files in linux.
Asked by cireds2000 - Sat May 8 23:11:02 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That depends on what you mean by "open". Linux talks to the driver. The driver talks to the hardware. So Linux has many drivers "open" at once. If you mean "open" as in "in a text editor", you can't, because a driver is computer code, not human readable text.

A. If you can t find the right drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. How do I access a disk file from a Linux block device driver?
Q. I need documentation on how to perform file IO (to a well defined disk file) from inside a Linux block device driver. Ideally, using the 2.6.(14-21) era kernels, compiled for 32-bit. I'm trying to emulate flash memory for a flash file system, using the disk file as the actual storage. The file will be arbitrarily large (eventually in the TiB range). Where do I look for information?
Asked by quizic - Tue Nov 4 18:06:48 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Look, it's called Open Source because you can go to ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/ linux/kernel/ and download the whole source code including all the block device drivers. Then you can go to linuxquestions.org, and ask your questions. And of course is the Linux Documentation project with documentation on just about everything. There are other places to look of course. Ubuntu has forums, google has both: and, though it may not seem like a good source of information: Try them both. You'll be amazed.

When would it be necessary for one to write their own device driver?
Q. When would it be necessary for one to write their own device driver? I think that most hardware devices come with their own device drivers so there is really no need to write one on your own. But I see so many people involved in writing them, why? Can you give some really life examples when it becomes necessary to write one? Thanks!
Asked by azmil_electric - Mon Dec 15 23:27:58 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. People write device drivers 1. Because one does not exist for the OS being used. 2. To streamline the device operation and get rid of unnecessary functionality. Not great answers, but the only reason I ever wrote device drivers.

Q. I got a thing for my samsung mobile today and it wont install because it says you have to uninstall the original device driver... what do i do
Asked by TANK - Mon Oct 29 15:13:22 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Device driver is program that helps your computer to recognize hardware device and talk with it. Above error means:- you have some mobile-phone program already installed on computer. i.e. you first didn't install program from samsung cd and window xp recognise your mobile phone (wireless i.e. bluetooth or cable) but install some generic (general) program/driver for that mobile phone. my suggestion:- Don't bring mobile near computer i.e. if bluetooth or don't attach cable between mobile & computer. Try to reinstall new program from cd. If the new program ask, then only bring the new mobile phone near computer or connect via cable. After installation, bring phone near to computer or connect via cable.

How do I get rid of a device driver?
Q. A device driver called VIA/S3G ProIBP showed up under Device Manager. This driver was interferingg with my ability to switch video modes. I don't have a video card and I have no idea how this device got added to my system. I have tried uninstall several times, but it keeps coming back. How do I get rid of it once and for all?
Asked by Don C - Thu Aug 14 14:32:01 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That is your video card. If you say you don't have one, it must be built into your motherboard. You cannot uninstall it if it is still functioning. You can try disabling it, but that may shut down all your graphics. Why do you think this is the cause of your problems?

Asked by Sloe3D - Thu Aug 17 21:18:07 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm going to assume that you'd like to build a device driver for Windows XP. (Note that device drivers can be written for any operating system). To get started, you'll need to get a copy of the WIndows Driver Development Kit from Microsoft. (See the link below for more info). If you're interested in becoming a programmer, I recommend joining MSDN. Even if you move on to other operating systems, it's a great resource for programmers both new and old. Good luck!

A. I do indeed hope you are talking about Windows Device Manager and not some other software that you have downloaded. The only software that you could possibly use from AMD is the 'Cool and Quiet' driver. Your laptop does run a bit hotter than a comparable intel machine so using this could help. As you are running Vista, you really shouldn't need it. My personal suspicions have been aroused by the terminology you have used. You may have some sort of software that is trying to get you to install something nasty. If your system is running fine don't worry about it. Good luck.
