Nouncomputers
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions. Although mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). These were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into a wristwatch, and can be powered by a watch battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". The embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are however the most numerous. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile, distinguishing them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore computers ranging from a mobile phone to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks, given enough time and storage capacity. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How to limit internet speed to specific computers on a network? Q. My household network consists of a router and 3 other computers connected to it. If I wanted to limit the download speed of a certain computer, what should I do? I can completely remove access to a computer in the router settings, but I only want to remove the power to Bit torrent for that computer. Asked by Tommy K - Wed Apr 25 02:36:04 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Okay. to do such a thing you would need a higher class router. You are looking into very advanced interfaces to do such a thing, and routers that can do that. are not regular all homes routers. Another way, cheaper and free. is get utorrent. www.utorrent.com It lets you set how much "internet" or bandwidth you want the program to use. Even for uploads. So you can set it to maybe 100 kpbs for download, and 20 for upload. Doesn't affect anything but what u just told it to. Me and my roommates have 3 computers, 2 are connected with wireless, and the other one is plugged into the router. 2 have vista and one has XP. How can i make the music folders on each computer shared, so I can just drag songs off the other computers onto mine? I tried networking it and it always ask for a password to access the other computers. How would I do this using XP and Vista ? Thanks! You can try foldershare This program syncs folders between multiple computers and whats kinda cool is that you can invite ANYONE to access your files. However, you can define what kind of access he/she has. I run an anime group with it, and of course I want my admins and contributers to have write rights, but I don't want the people who just download to have delete or change or add rights. It works rather well. You could each share your music folders with each other, or you could make one massive folder. On a side note, foldershare is a great way to share things like My Documents across multiple computers. I have 5 computers and it is nice to have all my documents on every machine. What is even cooler is that I have a remote machine… [cont.] Answered by tech_guy_towt - Sat Jan 19 13:38:49 2008 How many computers are you allowed with Netflix instant movies?
