What is the device driver for a Pocket PC?
Q. I got a Pocket PC for Christmas off eBay. Just the phone, a charger, and a USB cord. Now the phone isn't working, sending messages or showing any of my info, just coming up with a message that says "'Unidentified USB Device' Enter the name of the device driver for this device. For information, see the device manufacturer's documentation" I can't make sense of it. Any clue?

A. Yeah, I might have a clue if you told me the make/model of the device. Hope that helps.

Q. I got a thing for my samsung mobile today and it wont install because it says you have to uninstall the original device driver... what do i do

A. Device driver is program that helps your computer to recognize hardware device and talk with it. Above error means:- you have some mobile-phone program already installed on computer. i.e. you first didn't install program from samsung cd and window xp recognise your mobile phone (wireless i.e. bluetooth or cable) but install some generic (general) program/driver for that mobile phone. my suggestion:- Don't bring mobile near computer i.e. if bluetooth or don't attach cable between mobile & computer. Try to reinstall new program from cd. If the new program ask, then only bring the new mobile phone near computer or connect via cable. After installation, bring phone near to computer or connect via cable.

How do I get rid of a device driver?
Q. A device driver called VIA/S3G ProIBP showed up under Device Manager. This driver was interferingg with my ability to switch video modes. I don't have a video card and I have no idea how this device got added to my system. I have tried uninstall several times, but it keeps coming back. How do I get rid of it once and for all?

A. That is your video card. If you say you don't have one, it must be built into your motherboard. You cannot uninstall it if it is still functioning. You can try disabling it, but that may shut down all your graphics. Why do you think this is the cause of your problems?

A. I assume you know how to get into the device manger. I assume you know which item you are updating. just right click the item and click update driver. It well run you through a wizard where either you can pick the driver, or let windows search your computer for a better driver.

A. I had this problem after installing the wrong software on my HP Compaq NC6000. The software was listed by HP as suiting the laptop but was not. The software was for a Conextant modem & the Device Driver Installation Wizard belongs to this software. If you can find and delete a file called UIUCU.EXE that will be located in a temp directory the problem will go away. There is a registry entry for this as well, but just deleting the file will be enough.

A. Generally speaking a device that has an installed driver is going to be run by the driver itself. If you are talking about Windows NT(200/XP/Vista), the drivers are often run two ways- via services or via interrupt. Depending on the device, you will have a number of ways that the computer will interact with it. If you are talking about an onboard device, such as a security driver, onboard mathchip driver or other system component, those items run almost exclusively by interrupt and are called by the BIOS as the system has need of them. If you are talking about an outboard device, such as a sound card or graphics driver (attached via PCI or such), those will often run through a service that manages communications to and from them. … [cont.]

What is the purpose of a device driver?
Q. Have you ever had to install a device driver when connecting a new peripheral device to a computer? If you did, what was the device? Was the driver supplied by the operating system or by the device s manufacturer? Thanks for your help.

A. a driver "communicates" between the OS and the device. It's common to need to install drivers for hardware such as printers. Sometimes the OS can read the device enough to know what it basically is and provide a "generic" driver for it, but the device won't work as well or have all of its features available. (i.e. you have an HP printer with photo printing capabilities, Windows may be able to supply a driver for it to print off a basic document but not a photo.) For some devices, like mice and keyboards the OS's drivers are perfectly fine. Wifi cards on the other hand need a driver from the manufacturer. Windows has a very basic vga (display) driver included with it. If you've ever booted into Windows Safe Mode and seen what it looks… [cont.]

Neither have drivers installed. I have used Everest to try to find out the manufacturers name, make and model etc. No luck, again it says Network controller in there. Can anybody recommend a program/method to find these details. I have no device drivers on CD. Windows cannot find them either. A. On the boot up of the computer hit F8 and boot to safe mode. find out if there is any updates for your devices if you find one, install the device in device manager which will install the Microsoft default if needed. boot to normal mode and install the new driver. If this doesn't fix the issue you probably need to contact a technician to fix the issue because it gets more complicated from this point on

First, check with the materials that came with your computer, usually they come with a disc or even a couple discs that contain driver information for included hardware. If you can t find that, get your model number and head over to the manufacturer s Website. They should have a section where they have downloadable drivers for users. Here are links to the major manufacturers: Dell: HP: Sony: Lenovo/IBM: Hope these help! Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

A. You need to know what device needs its drivers installed. If you know, you can find the cd or floppy which came with the device and install them. Moreover, if the device is a network card which was preinstalled on your acer desktop you may have a driver on your acer disk. After writing those general comments, I decided to search for BT Hub for I have not heard of the device. It seems a BT Hub is actually a wireless router. You need to know whether you used an eithernet cable, USB cable or wireless connection to access the BT Hub If you used eithernet or wireless, you are missing the drivers for your network card and they would probably be on an acer drivers disk, or available on acer's website. If you have to obtain drivers… [cont.]
