A. Hi, Sorry about the problem. I don't understand the question. Do you have windows XP? You should only need to plug it in and Windows XP should do the rest.

How do I correct the device manager entry that is on my computer?
Q. My HP 522n thinks I have a CD-Rom instead of a CD-RW. I found a note saying my disk Drive is a Samsung SV6003H but my device manager thinks I have a CD- ROM. (This note may refer to another computer, but I know my computer has a CD-RW!) Do I have to change the drive? Can I change it by going into Boot information? My software is Microsoft Windows XP. Any suggestions are welcome. It does not mean I will try this myself since I am not a programmer. I want to have an idea what the repair person may do.

A. I would first consider deleting the device from device manager and reboot the system. In many cases Windows will find and identify the device correctly. I don't think it's likely that you need to manually change any boot information (BIOS). If reboot doesn't work out, try manually installing the hardware in Windows Control Panel. Install the driver from CD if you have one, or download from the manufacturer's website.

How do I restore the wireless adapter in the device manager under the network adapters?
Q. I was using my laptop and the internet was fine. Then I go back on in a couple of hours and the internet was gone. I check the device manager and the wireless adapter's not there. Also, the wireless connection icon isn't in the network connections. It's been like that for a couple of days and I'm kinda scared. Also, it's happened before. I mean that the wireless connection would disappear, but it would come back though. Please help me and thank you.

Why is there two Monitors listed in Device Manager in XP Pro?
Q. In my Device Manager, its listed as two Monitors, However I dont have two Monitors installed, I only have one Monitor installed. I tried to uninstall the First one, I rebooted, and its still there. I did the same thing to the other one, and its still there.. Oh and I dont even use a Video card or a Graphics card, I use the VGA Port.
Asked by RaffiTheMaster - Tue Dec 9 13:12:20 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. no video card?! maybe you mean you have a build-in video card, you've just mentioned the VGA port... if you see a two monitors installed, it just means that your video or graphic card is capable to use more than 1 monitor, this video card have a tv-out terminal, which means you have a primary monitor that is ENABLE and a secondary monitor which default value is DISABLE, that you can set it to ENABLE if you want to use other monitor like the TV.

A. Two/maybe three things you need to do, You will need to download the drivers for your monitor, your video card (or onboard video) and your sound card or onboard. to do this you need the exact make and model of your hardware then try to find the companies websites who make the products and browse their support sections for drivers. There are a number of other website that offer drivers that might help you for your model however some of them charge for the service. More Computer and Internet Resources at

There is a yellow exclamtion point next to PCI modem in device manager. My internet doesnt work. How do i fix it
Q. I have a sony desktop. My internet just stopped working. I uninstalled the PCI modem in my device manager. The modem is fine because i can still connect wirelessly with my laptop. I can't use the internet on my desktop so i can't go online and download anything. I'm trying to see if there is another way to fix it than to reboot my computer.

A. You uninstalled the desktop internal modem. The wireless connection on your laptop is irrelevant. You need to reinstall the modem. In device manager, right-click on the computer name (the top line) and click on Scan for hardware changes. Then reinstall your modem. And consider staying out of device manager.

A. I don't think you can, because the icons in Control Panel are a result of enumerating .cpl files, and there is no .cpl file specifically for Device Manager. (.cpl files are basically .dll's with particular requirements on entry points and icons) However if you make a shortcut for devmgmt.msc you can put that shortcut on your desktop or anywhere else. Just fyi, "computer management", aka "manage" from right-clicking "My Computer", is compmgmt.msc. You can get to device manager from there, too. "Disk manager" is diskmgmt.msc. You can find other .msc's in \windows\system32. Alternately, you can use Windows-R and type devmgmt.msc into the Run prompt.. The Run prompt remembers the last few things you start that way and Device Manager is… [cont.]

Why are so many items listed under USB controllers in device manager?
Q. I have four usb ports. There are five "USB root Hub" listed in device manager and four Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7) USB universal host controllers. One USB2 enhanced host controller. I'm not having any problems; I was just wandering why so many are listed. There should only be four listed since I only have four ports? If you unplug a device w/out "removing it" first does it add another one to the list? I've seen other computers with many more than this listed. Thanks

Why is my CPU speed slower than what it should be according to the Device Manager?
Q. I am on a Sony VIAO using a Core 2 Duo T7300. Under Device manager it says that the CPU is at 2GHz each, but under system settings and everything else it says that I am at 1.8GHz only... why is it lower, and how can I raise it up to the 2GHz it should be at?

A. Are you sure you have a T7300? There is a known issue with Vaio's and Windows Vista where the CPU will show as higher than it actually is within device manager.

A. on the back of the unit is a slot, much like a memory slot. its will be different because it has two or three antennas hook to it. do not pull them out. just remove the card and power on the pc. let it post and get into window. than shut down and put the card back in. boot up. it should find the card this time.

A. the yellow exclamation sign means a driver is missing in your computer, identify it and download it from your manufacture's website or the device manufacturer, download it and place it in your computer, then go to device manager again and select reinstall driver and let the wizard look for it in advanced or custom, and select the folder where you placed the driver, the wizard will automatically look and install it, BTW what kind of driver u missing?

This is simply not true. When a program from OS X (Tiger at least) needs to access the integrated iSight camera, it has to call the QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer. component.
